But either way they are typically lined today with resin-bonded magnesia-carbon products that permit the operator to run with slags that are neutral to very basic in composition. There are still EAF's however, involved in steel production that use magnesia-chrome compositions in part or total to handle their specific needs. An EAF design typically requires different materials for the bottom, lower sidewall and upper sidewall cold and hot spots.
