Types of Refractory Clays

Fire Clay & Ceramic Clay
The Cedar Heights Clay Company has been mining and processing clays in Southern Ohio from the Oak Hill Operations since 1924. The refractory clays at Resco offer a veritable palette of colors and textures for every firing method in use today. Our well-known locally mined clays include RedArt Clay©, GoldArt Clay©, Roseville Stoneware Clay©, Salt Lick Stoneware Clay©, Ceramic Fireclay, and Industrial Fireclay.

Corelite kiln shelves are available in a variety of shapes and sizes with a maximum service temperature of 2350°F (1280°C).

RedArt Clay

RedArt is a red burning sedimentary clay with a firing range of cone 04 to cone 4 when used as the primary clay body component. RedArt clay offers excellent plasticity straight out of the bag and can be used as 100% of a red burning earthenware body. Small additions (10-15%) of ball clay or GoldArt will enhance the plasticity for work on the whell without sacrificing plasticity. Contact Resco Products to purchase bulk Redart Clay.

GoldArt Clay

GoldArt is a stoneware clay burning to a very light buff color at cone 06 and to a darker cream color at cone 8 and light grey at cone 10. Used as a primary component of stoneware bodies in the cone 6-10 range, it lends plasticity to the body while the small amount of iron and titania lead to pleasing orange, grey, red, and other color effects in reduction and/or wood firing atmospheres.  Contact Resco Products to purchase Goldart Clay in bulk.

Salt Lick Stoneware Clay

Salt Lick Stoneware has many of the same properties as GoldArt but has lower alumina and higher potassia which helps lower the maturing temperature without sacrificing plasticity. Roseville Stoneware Clay burns to a darker cream color than either GoldArt or Salt Lick and matures at cone 6-8. Excellent as the primary component of salt and soda fired bodies.

Roseville Stoneware Clay

Roseville Stoneware Clay burns to a darker cream color than either GoldArt or Salt Lick and matures at cone 6-8. Excellent as the primary component of salt and soda fired bodies. Roseville Stoneware Clay is available from Laguna Clay (Byesville, Ohio), Bracker's Good Earth clays, Dakota Potter's Supply, Georgie's West Coast Ceramics, Paoli Clay, New Mexico Clay, Columbus Clay Company, and Amherst Potter's Supply.
