Refractory mortars are utilized for coating, patching, and bonding alumina brick. Also utilized with setting pre-cast shapes, dense refractory bricks, furnace safety linings, and high-temperature insulation bricks. Mortar refractories can come in dry or wet mortar. Dry mortar requires adding water and in a wet mortar (premixed) version additives are usually not necessary and are ready to use.
They shouldn’t shrink excessively upon drying or heating. Use similar compositions as the brick to ensure when temperature changes it doesn't affect the bond. This helps to prevent the coating to crack or peel.
